Another game in the UEFA Euro 2024 and the Three Lions play out another draw. Gareth Southgate failed to answer his critics as toothless England playout a boring draw against Slovenia in Cologne. Despite the draw, Harry Kane and co top Group C with this draw and 5 points in their bag.
Toothless Lions!
Hopes were high for England to put out a strong show. Gareth Southgate made a slight change in their Playing XI. Answering the pertinent problem of no consolidated midfielder to partner Declan Rice. The English gaffer benched Trent Alexander-Arnold with Conor Gallagher from the start.
England started the game on a strong note, before Slovenia tried to pile on the pressure. England then scored in the 20th minute of the game, but the goal was turned down. It was a lovely move from Rice who laid off to Foden. The City star passed it to Saka who tapped it into the back of the net. But Foden was deemed offside to the correct pointing out of the linesman.
No chance to answer critics!
Before the game, Southgate claimed that England would answer the critics in style and shut out the outside noise. Keen to make a mark in the game, England made a chance in the second half with Kobbie Mainoo replacing Gallagher. The youngster proved to a livewire as he took on the Slovenian defense.
Harry Kane came close to scoring but missed the target by a whisker from a lethal cross from Trippier. In the dying minutes of the game, Cole Palmer attempted a puny shot which didn’t trouble Jan Oblak.
