Kolkata giants East Bengal have mutually parted ways with head coach Carles Cuadrat after a poor start to their Indian Super League (ISL 2024-25) campaign. The abysmal performance of the team has seen Carles Cuadrat becoming the first coach of the new season to be sacked. And with Cuadrat gone, East Bengal has now brought in 5 coaches in their 4 seasons in the ISL.
It has been a horrific start for the Red and Gold brigade in their ISL campaign so far. The Kolkata giants have played 3 matches have been handed 3 losses. They lost their opening game to Bengaluru FC 1-0, followed by a 2-1 Kerala Blasters and then a 3-2 loss to FC Goa.
East Bengal Statement
Emami East Bengal FC announces the departure of Carles Cuadrat as its Head Coach. Bino George will serve as the interim Head Coach. Emami East Bengal FC will make further announcements in due course. Cuadrat was instrumental in guiding the Red & Gold Brigade to the Kalinga Super Cup title in January earlier this year. He also led the team to a runners-up finish in last year’s Durand Cup.
Mr Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of Emami Group said, “The Emami East Bengal FC management appreciates Coach Carles for guiding the team to the Kalinga Super Cup title and AFC continental competitions after a long hiatus. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
East Bengal joined the ISL under the leadership of Robbie Fowler in the 2020-21 season. But the following season, the Red and Gold brigade roped in Manolo Díaz. The Spaniard too couldn’t help the side achieve their glory and was subsequently replaced. Mario Rivera joined and ended the 2021-22 season for the side.
Up next came the Stephen Constantine era in 2022-23. The former India coach too failed to prove his worth and was removed. Carles Cuadrat joined the side in 2023-24 season. He brought the club, their first silverware after 12 years by winning the Kalinga Super Cup. But dismal performances in Durand Cup, AFC Champions League Two qualifiers and now the ISL, saw the Spaniard bidding adieu to the Kolkata giants.
