Emirates FA Cup 2022: Manchester United 1-0 Aston Villa – United hold on to beat Villa 1-0 and reach the FA Cup fourth round. They took the lead in the eighth minute when Scott McTominay nodded in, but after that, the best chances fell to Villa, with Watkins smashing an effort off the bar in the first half. In the second, they hit the back of the net twice, with both being ruled out. After the break Villa thought they had equalised when Danny Ings bundled home from close range. But after a lengthy VAR break referee Michael Oliver determined that the goal should be disallowed for a foul in the build up.

Steven Gerrard’s side were pushing hard for a goal now and had another one disallowed, this time as Watkins was adjudged to be offside. Despite yet more Villa pressure in the final moments of the match, United held out and will now face Middlesbrough in the next round,
