EFL Cup: Tottenham, Chelsea go through on penalties, Manchester United knocked out by West Ham- The 3rd Round of EFL Cup is complete. After Liverpool and Manchester City went through to the 4th Round, Tottenham, and Chelsea are into the next round as well. They both won their games against Wolves and Aston Villa on penalties respectively. However, Manchester United has been knocked out by West Ham as they were defeated 1-0.

Chelsea has advanced to the 4th Round of the EFL Cup after winning 4-3 on penalties against Aston Villa. The match at Stamford Bridge could not be concluded after 90 minutes and the teams had to be separated by penalties. The 1st goal came in the 2nd half as Timo Werner guided a header from a sublime Reece James’ cross into the Villa net.

However, 10 minutes later, Cameron Archer equalized for Aston Villa in the 64th minute. After that, Villa had a lot of chances but could not convert them. Kepa made some decent saves and Archer always looked dangerous. Ashley Young and Nakamba both missed the 2nd and 3rd penalties. However, Ben Chilwell struck the post too but Reece James converted the decisive penalty to ensure the win for Chelsea.

The two teams met twice this week. In the Premier League, Manchester United got the better of West Ham. However, West Ham came out on top in the EFL Cup as they knocked the Red Devils out at Old Trafford. Jadon Sancho still could not create any impact.

The only goal of the match came in the 9th minute as Manuel Lanzini scored to put West Ham ahead.

Tottenham goes through to the 4th Round after defeating the Wolves 2-3 on penalties. The Spurs took a 2-goals lead in the first 25 minutes as Tanguy Ndombele scored in the 14th minute and Harry Kane doubled the lead in the 23rd minute.

However, the Wolves kept knocking and cut the lead into half as Leander Dedoncker scored in the 38th minute. They got level with Daniel Podence’s goal in the 58th minute and the teams could not be separated in 90 minutes. Ruben Neves, Dedoncker, and Coady all missed their penalties and Spurs won the match 2(2)-2(3).
