The results of the matches that took place yesterday:
- West Ham vs Manchester City: West Ham progresses 5-3 on penalties, with Phil Foden missing the significant spot kick, after neither team could stick the ball in the back of the net and it ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Both teams decided to rest some key players, with Pep preferring to rest the likes of Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Ederson, Ruben Diaz and Aymeric Laporte, however Pep still put-on an incredible squad with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gundogan, but despite their effort Guardiola’s men could not come out on top.
After beating City’s across town rivals Manchester United in the last round, this victory really personifies the progress made by the Hammers in the last 18 months, it further states that their 4th position in the league and 1st position in the Europa League group in no fluke.

- Preston vs Liverpool: Liverpool progresses to the next round with 2nd half goals from Takumi Minimino and Divock Origi.
As Jurgen Klopp usually does in this competition, he decided to rest most of his 1st team starters, only Curtis Jones and Joel Matip played the from the start. As it was expected, Liverpool was in control of the tempo of the game, dominating the Championship side, however the home side did have some chances and Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian had to make some crucial saves to keep the hosts out.

Last Year’s losing finalist put a strong team on the field including the likes of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Hojbjerg and Cristian Romero. The Lilywhites had plent of possession but were not creating many clear-cut chances, despite that Moura took his and put Spurs in the Quarters. The Spurs fans would be hoping to do one better than last season and finally end their trophy-drought by winning the Carabao Cup this season.
Leicester City vs Brighton: Leicester City got the better of Brighton on penalties, with Neal Maupay and Enock Mwepu missing crucial spot-kicks for Brighton. The match ended level at 2-2 after 90 minutes.
