The India Football Team will take on Syria in the final game of the Intercontinental Cup. But most importantly, it will be the title decider for both teams. And ahead of the mega clash between India vs Syria, head coach Manolo Marquez is “not confident” about tomorrow’s game since Syria is a tough opponent. Marquez claimed that lifting the trophy would be good, but he is more focused on playing a good game for the Blue Tigers.
India played out a rather lackluster 0-0 draw against Mauritius in their opening game. The new India head coach was angry and post-match claimed that his side’s performance couldn’t have been more worse.
However now, before the all-important clash, Marquez is keen on his team performing well. The gaffer emphasized that his main objective is to play good football.
Prefer to play good football
“Confidence is not the correct word (when asked about his side’s chances of lifting the trophy). We expect to play a good game. Obviously, we want to win the tournament. I prefer to play a good game than to win a tournament. I don’t win the tournament 1-0 scoring with the hand,” said Manolo Marquez at the pre-match press conference.
“At this moment, the team need to understand our ideas and try to play better. When you win obviously, your confidence grows,” Marquez added.
Jay Gupta reveals Happy Indian dressing room
India’s left-back Jay Gupta has been a revelation after his heroics with FC Goa last season under the same coach. The young back is ready to accommodate in any position to benefit the team. He believes that the team is training well and the team atmosphere is very good. This will be crucial for all the players to adopt the football philosophy that Marquez would be keen to instill in the Indian National Team.
“I think, a lot of other players have already been under the coach for a longer time, so they would know, how to adapt. The atmosphere in the dressing room is positive. Thanks to the AIFF who chose coach Manolo. We feel, very positive about what he wants from us. And as long as we do that, we will know we will go in the right direction,” said Jay Gupta.
