It was as if the writing was on the wall. Dimitri Petratos’s late strike in injury time against Odisha FC was enough to clinch the ISL Shield for the Mariners. The Green and Maroon Brigade became the first side in the Indian Super League (ISL) to lift the shield in two consecutive years. 3 points on Sunday meant Mohun Bagan meant the Kolkata giants became the first team in ISL history to breach the 50-point mark.
With 16 wins, 4 draws, and 2 losses in the season, Mohun Bagan was miles ahead of others. With 2 games remaining, they went on to defend their shield and will be aiming to do the double this season. The Mariners needed a win on Sunday after a hard-fought battle they got the goal they were looking for from one of their best strikers ever – The Man, The Myth, and the Legend – Dimitri Petratos.

Mohun Bagan – Champions of India yet again
Mohun Bagan began the game on a positive front from the very first minute. The hosts were desperate to get the opening goal but Odisha FC remained resolute in their defense. The Mariners continued to launch barrages of attacks, but some blinding saves by goalie Amrinder Singh kept the score unchanged at half time.
It was again the same sight in the second half. In the 83rd minute, the ace defender Mourtada Fall received a direct red card after fouling Jamie MacLaren just outside the box. Mohun Bagan continued to huff and puff but failed to break the deadlock.
And then at the 90+3 minute, it was as if the footballing gods scripted it. Last season’s MVP, Dimitri Petratos who struggled with game time this season, unleashed a strong shot cutting inside from the right flank. The ball rolled past Amrinder to hit the bottom corner as the entire Yuba Bharati Stadium burst out with joy.
