The star of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Kylian Mbappe, has lauded Lionel Messi as one of the greatest players in football history and asserted that the Argentine legend was not treated with respect while playing for PSG in France. Mbappe also said he does not understand why Messi’s departure made the club’s supporters happy.
At the end of this month, when his contract with the Parisians was supposed to expire, Messi made the decision not to extend it. His choice followed a few months ago when an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia earned him the wrath of supporters as well as a suspension and fine from the club. La Pulga will soon play for Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Kylian Mbappe’s words
Kylian Mbappe has discussed Lionel Messi’s departure from PSG for the first time since the Argentine legend’s departure became public knowledge. Mbappe said, ‘He’s one of greatest player in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves. I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone. He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France.’
When Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr., and Lionel Messi teamed up at PSG in the summer of 2021, there was a lot of anticipation. The trio failed to help the Parisians win their first-ever UEFA Champions League championship, despite having won two Ligue 1 championships together.
Messi contributed to 35 assists and 32 goals overall in 71 games for the French powerhouses. Over the previous two seasons, he and Mbappe have combined for 34 goals while playing 67 times together.
Kylian Mbappe’s future at PSG in doubt?
Many people thought that Lionel Messi’s future would be the greatest topic of the summer after his departure from PSG was officially announced. Nevertheless, despite interest from his former team Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League, Messi moved quickly to join Inter Miami CF. Following recent events, everyone seems to be considering Kylian Mbappe’s future right now.
Mbappe recently informed the Parisians of his decision not to exercise his player option to extend his contract until June 2025, according to transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano. Last summer, the Frenchman agreed to a contract that would run through 2024 with an additional season’s option.

However, according to a report from Romano, PSG wants Mbappe to sign a contract extension rather than letting him depart on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. Real Madrid is apparently interested in tapping up the Frenchman.
Mbappe addresses rumors about his future
Mbappe wasn’t hanging around and was quick to make a statement about his future. He said, ‘Lies. I’ve already said that I’m going to continue next season at PSG where I’m very happy.’
Although he did say that he wasn’t going to extend his PSG contract until June 2025. He said, ‘I didn’t ask to leave PSG or to join Real Madrid. I just told the club that I won’t activate the option to extend the contract until June 2025. We never discussed new deal with PSG but I’m happy to stay here next season.’
