Daniel Podence Spitting: Wolves will contest the FA Charge against Daniel Podence for allegedly spitting at Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. The winger was penalised by the FA after reviewing the incident and imposing a six-match ban, having escaped from punishment during the match by match referee and VAR. The incident happened in the 90th minute, as Forest’s Brennan Johnson accused Podence of spitting at him however, no action was taken as the winger scored the equaliser for the Wolves to salvage a point against Forrest. However, the investigation by the FA led to a six-match has been imposed on Pondence which Wolves plan to challenge stating he did not actually spit. The club can submit the appeal until April 14 after FA’s extended deadline by 48 hours to the recent bank holiday.
Speaking about the ban, the 27-year-old winger last week, Pondence states on social media, ‘As I have been accused of something I haven’t done… will make it clear: I did not spit on Nottingham’s player. I’m telling the truth and I would never do such a thing, even more to a colleague.’
Meanwhile, Forrest’s Johnson said, ‘’I’m not going to allegate (sic) him, but I felt like some sort of spit came towards my face.’
‘The referees have had a look at it, so it’s done now. I’m completely fine with it.’
Maybe they didn’t see something that I did see, so at the end of the day they didn’t give a red card and I just had to get on with the rest of the game.’
Moreover, after the game Forest manager Steve Cooper was reluctant to comment on the incident by did indicate that there could be retrospective action. He said, ‘I’m not going to comment on it publicly. I’m sure there will be next steps.’
The battle between the two sides was fierce as both sides were involved in the brawl, with Forest charged fine with failing to control their players. Alongside Pondence, the Forest and Wolves assistants Alan Tate and Pablo Sainz were charged with improper conduct resulting in being sent off by the match referee.
