Dani Alves Return: Barcelona’s new manager Xavi signs 38-year-old Dani Alves as his first signing – Veteran full-back Dani Alves is returning to Barcelona at age 38, the Spanish club said Friday. Barcelona said it reached an agreement in principle with Alves to finish out the rest of the season with the team. The Brazilian will arrive as a free agent since he left São Paulo in September. He will return to La Liga under the new management of former teammate Xavi.

In an official statement released by FC Barcelona on their website they said:
“FC Barcelona and Dani Alves have reached an agreement in principle for the player to join the football first team for the remainder of the current season. The Brazilian will be joining training from next week but will not be able to play until January.
The club will announce the full details at his official presentation as a new FC Barcelona player.”

Playing as an attack-minded right-back, Alves formed part of Barcelona’s greatest era from 2008 to 2016. He helped it win 23 titles, including three Champions League trophies and six Spanish leagues. He scored 23 goals in 391 games for Barcelona before he left to play for Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and then São Paulo.
He will now play for former teammate Xavi Hernández, who also returned to the club last week as its coach. Alves will join American Sergiño Dest, Óscar Mingueza, and Sergi Roberto as players who can fill the right back position for Barcelona.

All-time record for trophies:
Alves won 23 titles at FC Barcelona: 6 Ligas, 4 Copas del Rey, 3 Champions League, 3 Club World Cups, 3 Spanish Super Cups and 4 European Super Cups.
He also won titles at Juventus (2), Paris Saint-Germain (6) and São Paulo (1) before returning to Catalonia.
Adding the various honours he won with EC Bahia (3), Sevilla (5) and Brazil (6), his total haul of 46 titles is regarded as the most ever won by a senior footballer.
