Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Highlights: Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah HIT Crossbarr TWICE, Liverpool play out yet another frustrating draw against Crystal Palace – Check Highlights

Liverpool’s dismal 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday marked the end of a challenging week and did little to improve their chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League. Tuesday’s Champions League defeat by Real Madrid at home by a score of 5-2 forced Jurgen Klopp’s uneven team to struggle against a Palace outfit that had not maintained a clean sheet against Liverpool in 18 years.

The Reds gained a spot and are now ranked seventh, six points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place with one game remaining. Palace are in 12th place, six points above the relegation zone, after eight league games without a victory.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah struck the crossbar in the second half, but Palace had two golden opportunities in the first frame thanks to Marc Guehi’s missed header and Jean-Philippe Mateta’s drive that hit the crossbar. A third straight league clean sheet would give Liverpool some solace, but they were far from their best as they battled to get into any sort of rhythm. Liverpool had an early lead without truly breaching Palace’s defence, and they were fortunate that Patrick Vieira’s team’s goal-scoring woes reappeared.

Prior to the break, Palace had the best opportunities. The first came when Michael Olise sent a beautiful cross off a free kick, but Guehi was unable to direct his powerful header on goal. After Jeffrey Schlupp capitalised on some shoddy defence by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mateta came within inches of scoring again but hit the crossbar instead.

When Diogo Jota’s attempt was stopped and the ball dropped to Salah, whose shot hit the bar, Liverpool opened the second period strongly with Harvey Elliott coming off the bench to energise their midfield. However, their danger diminished and the home team appeared equally likely to win all three points, therefore a draw was more appropriate as Palace gained its first home point against Liverpool since 2014.
