Covid strikes ISL: ATKMB vs BFC postponed – Within a week, another ISL 2022 match has been postponed. This time, the match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC had to be postponed as multiple players are in isolation due to Covid cases inside bio-bubble. “Hero Indian Super League (ISL) announces the postponement of the match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC scheduled to be played on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at PJN Stadium, Fatorda,” the league said in a statement.

On Friday, Bengaluru FC called off the customary pre-match press conference while ATK Mohun Bagan didn’t hold one. Furthermore, both teams cancelled their practice sessions and were locked in to self-isolate.

“Each match is assessed on a number of factors including the ability of the clubs to field a team; the severity of Covid-19 breakout at the club(s); and the ability of the club personnel to safely prepare for and play the match. The health and safety of all personnel in various bubbles remains our priority, and the League & Clubs will continue to monitor the situation and act accordingly,” the statement added.

ATK Mohun Bagan were unable to practice due to the unavailability of players. Multiple ATKMB players tested positive after their match against Odisha FC was postponed on January 8. Since then, the team has been unable to practice.

As for Bengaluru FC, it is yet to be confirmed whether any player in Sunil Chhetri-led side has tested positive but there is a possibility that some might.
