Luka Modric is undoubtedly one of the players in Real Madrid that helped create their destructive history. However, with his age, his playing time has decreased exponentially. The magnificent midfielder is unhappy with this and there have been rumours that he wants to leave the club. Reportedly, the Croatian captain could be on his way to the United States. He could join Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami. However, it’s still not confirmed and coach Carlo Ancelotti says the rumours to be untrue.
Luka Modric was instrumental in Real Madrid’s success in the last decade or so. However, his age is catching up to him and the coach prefers younger players before him to start. This has not gone down well with the 38-year-old. As per reports, he is thinking of a move to the United States. Apparently, he could be joining Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami. However, as per coach Carlo Ancelotti, Modric has no intention of leaving Real Madrid anytime soon.
Before their match against Osasuna, the coach was asked about Modric’s future at the club during the pre-match press conference. He said, “I absolutely do not think that Modric is considering leaving in January, because he thinks he is an important player. We also think that he is very important, that he is still very important, that he will be very important for this season, so he isn’t considering leaving and we are happy with this.” Ancelotti also agreed that Modric is not happy with the amount of playing time.
He added, “I talk to him every day and I see a player who obviously isn’t happy about not playing, but that said, he maintains a high level of motivation and desire to bring something to the team. No one can bring what he brings to the locker room. It’s a charisma that he brings to his teammates. I totally understand him being affected by not playing, it happens to everyone who loves Modric. Fans, teammates, the coach… who also loves him.”
Modric extended his contract for a year with Real Madrid this summer. Hence, his contract ends at the end of next season. However, he is displeased with his current situation at the Spanish club. Hence, reportedly, he could leave as soon as during the winter transfer window. In mid-February this year, during an interview, Modric said, “I want to stay at Real Madrid, but only because I deserve to.” However, this only indicates that he could be feeling out-of-place with the current Los Blancos squad and coach.
Shedding light on the rumours of Modric’s move, Los Blancos sporting director and former player said, “Inter Miami? Honestly, I talk to him often and Modric is not thinking about leaving. He wants to fight. He thinks he can contributeand he feels good. Although there are many games in the next three months and the situation can change for better or worse. We will see. At the moment he wants to fight at Real Madrid and wants to be a starter.”
