Peru and Chile on Saturday played out a 0-0 draw in the second match of Copa America 2024 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. The Group A match featured some of the big names of South American football such as Claudio Bravo and Alexis Sanchez but both teams failed to get on the scoresheet in spite of the numerous chances created.
Nothing to differentiate Chile and Peru
Chile and Peru, who have Argentina and Canada as the other competitors of Group A, needed a win to go within the top 2 of the group but failed to do so, handing an advantage to Canada.
Chile started the game on the front foot, seeing more of the ball. However, they failed to work the Peru goalkeeper, hitting just one shot on target throughout the match.
Bravo made to work hard
Peru, on the other hand, were content to sit back and absorb pressure. They maintained their shape and forced the Chileans to play mostly lateral and back passes. In spite of less shots, it was Peru who had more shots on target with Claudio Bravo having to work quite a lot to keep the Peruvians out.
Advantage Canada after draw?
In the end, the draw served well for Canada who lost their first match against Argentina. Chile play Argentina three days later and a slip could mean Alexis Sanchez and co bow out of the tournament.
