Eriksen and Ronaldo played together for the first half of the season. The Portugal international later decided to make an exit from United after his controversial interview and ongoing drama with the club. He made up his mind to leave the club before the FIFA World Cup and in December, it was officially confirmed that he is not part of Manchester United. Ronaldo moved to the Saudi Arabia club, Al Nassr in the winter.
Eriksen has claimed that he had a little fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo over a free kick. The Denmark international spoke about this after a successful season in Premier League. He admitted that the United have multiple set-piece takers at the club and the Portuguese was a part of the group prior to his departure.
Man United midfielder spoke to MUTV, “Even now at the club, we have multiple takers who if he’s had a good day, he’s going to have it. (Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes) and Rashy (Marcus Rashford). They’re probably the three and Ronaldo when he was here, obviously.”
The Denmark international insisted that he faced Ronaldo’s anger when he was initially playing for Manchester United. He summarised his thought with an example of taking a free kick ahead of Ronaldo.
He added, “I did take one (instead of Ronaldo), I think, but he wasn’t too happy with that! But then with the three we have now, it’s where we are on the pitch, how people are feeling, so it’s like ‘you had the last one, I’ll have the next one.”
Apart from Ronaldo, Eriksen shared his experience with his midfield chemistry with winter signing Casemiro and Ronaldo’s Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes. He believed that they connected really quickly.
He said, “I think from day one we connected really quickly. We have three different players but three guys who are not scared of taking the ball and trying to create something.”
Eriksen has been a standout performer for Man United in his debut season, scoring two goals and providing 10 assists in 42 games across all competitions. He was part of Man United’s EFL Cup triumph which was the club’s first silverware since 2017. Manchester United will take part in FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley this week. They finished third in the points table and made return to the Champions League.
