Chhetri clan grows bigger, India captain welcomes first child

Sunil Chhetri, captain of the Indian football team, and his wife Sonam Chhetri welcomed their first child on Wednesday in Bengaluru.

The wait has come to an end. Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian football team, is now a father. His wife Sonam gave birth to a son on Wednesday. According to family sources and media reports, Sonam is currently in a nursing home in Bangalore. Both the mother and the baby are doing well.

At 11:11 AM on Wednesday, Sonam gave birth to a son, marking a significant moment. Interestingly, Sunil has refrained from sharing any updates on social media, a trend that has become rather customary among celebrities nowadays. Typically, positive news finds its way to social media platforms, yet both Sunil and Sonam have chosen not to communicate anything about this matter online so far.

Saheb Bhattacharya, who frequently shares updates about Sunil and Sonam on social media, is the son of the renowned football legend Subrata Bhattacharya. He is also Sunil’s brother-in-law. Curiously, Saheb has chosen not to make any social media posts concerning the birth of the couple’s son. As of now, the son’s name remains undisclosed. Nonetheless, family sources assure that both the mother and the newborn are in good health and thriving.

Coincidentally, the Indian team is scheduled to participate in the King’s Cup prior to the Asian Games. Coach Igor Stimac had previously conveyed that Sunil Chhetri would not partake in this tournament. This became evident when the team’s roster was unveiled on Tuesday, with Stimac notably omitting Sunil’s name. Sunil had sought permission for an early departure to be by his wife’s side for the birth of their first child. The All India Football Association had already circulated information that Sunil would be absent from the King’s Cup. Consequently, Stimac proceeded to announce the team without his inclusion.
