The away side started the game brightly and completely controlled the midfield from the start. Chennaiyin FC gave the ball away cheaply too many times and had to pay the price in the 13th minute. Jay Gupta’s cross landed at the feet of Boris Singh Thangjam. Boris’ right-footed shot from the centre of the box gave no chance to the Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper.

The Gaurs added a second eleven minutes later through Rowllin Borges. Carl McHugh created the goal when he laid a ball in the path of Borges outside the box. Rowllin unleashed a vicious right footer which landed in the top left corner of the goal.

The Gaurs kept up their dominance as Chennayin FC looked hapless in their approach. The Marina Machans had a few chances in the FC Goa box but poor finishing cost the southern side dearly.
