Chelsea owners optimistic over future & pledge to improve

Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are optimistic to see a bigger improve in future following a poor season in Premier League.

Chelsea had a nightmare season in 2022/23 and it was the first season under the new ownership. It was a challenging phase for the club after a poor finish in Premier League. Club owners back themselves to find the lost glory back and they are optimistic about the future since the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino. They believe the Argentine can turn things around in the upcoming season.

It was a terrible season under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. In their first year of charge, they changed two permanent managers Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. They couldn’t find any improvement from interim boss Frank Lampard this season. The ownership was on the radar of football experts and they were criticised for the club’s poor campaign.

Chelsea finished in the bottom half of the table and it was a disaster show for the owners. Their 12th-place finish in Premier League was the worst since 1994. Owners put their heart into the transfer window and invested more than £600million but they failed to get any positive results. Chelsea also missed the qualification in Europe after a long time.

Meanwhile, Chelsea owners are optimistic and they back their new manager who can add smiles to their faces in 2023/24. The former PSG boss had changed the fortune of Tottenham when he last appeared in Premier League as manager. He guided them to the UCL final in 2019.

Chelsea owners speak in an open letter, “It’s been just over a year since we completed our purchase of Chelsea. It was and remains a privilege for us to be custodians of our wonderful club.”

“We remain completely committed to the long term and sustainable success of our club and fulfilling that promise we made to you.

It also reads, “We know the huge potential we must grow to develop Chelsea FC and it is a role we take seriously. Everybody working here is relentlessly focused on driving us forward.

In their letter, they talked about their first season at Stamford Bridge and the challenges ahead of the new season, “Clearly, for our men’s team, it has been a disappointing season and there is a lot we can and will do better. For all the challenges of the past year, we are optimistic about the future. We are looking forward to welcoming Mauricio Pochettino as the head coach of our men’s team in July.

Chelsea are focusing on important elements regarding the club’s transformation and they believed on the club’s scouting to enhance the squad. The letter also reads, “We are building a modern scouting, talent identification, and recruiting infrastructure within our sporting department, led by Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, which will help us to identify and transform the squad around elite talent, a squad capable of consistently competing to win the Premier League, raise domestic cups and compete and win at the highest level in European football.

“We have also appointed Chris Jurasek as CEO to drive our business forward off the pitch, which in turn will make us more sustainable on the pitch.”

Apart from the failure of the men’s team, Chelsea’s women’s team added some happy moments from a poor season. They won the Women’s league and owners hailed their manager Emma Hayes.

The letter included the appreciation of WSL winners, “Our women’s team has celebrated another astonishing season, winning the double with an unprecedented fourth successive WSL title and third successive FA Cup.”

“There are not enough positive things to say about Emma Hayes, her backroom staff, and squad who have dealt with adversity, injury and Emma’s period of absence. Their character and hunger to win is second to none.”

It was a tough season for Chelsea but things will not remain the same. The new manager will change the story and we might see Chelsea making a solid comeback in 2023/24. They will look to sign some key players in the summer transfer window and Poch is busy in the selection of the players. The Blues will be back with extra energy and it would be a good thing for Premier League.
