In March of the previous year, Roman Abramovich, who had acquired Chelsea Football Club in 2003, made the decision to sell the club. This announcement coincided with the commencement of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Abramovich had invested over £1.5 billion into the club, leading to significant accomplishments during his ownership. However, due to his associations with Russian President Putin, he faced sanctions.

In May of the following year, Chelsea was purchased by a consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly for a reported amount of £4.25 billion.
