Check out Players with MOST runs on their Test Match debut for India

Yashasvi Jaiswal came within an inch of breaking yet another record in the IND vs WI 1st Test in Dominica as India completely dominated the Windies.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was on the cusp of breaking yet another record on his debut in the IND vs WI 1st Test in Dominica. Jaiswal has looked as if he has been playing at the international level for the past 10 years. The 21-year-old batted with maturity and poise beyond his age as he batted for the whole of day 2 without making a single mistake. The southpaw showed his versatility, as not too long ago he was bashing bowlers in the IPL, and now he has seemingly transitioned from the fickle format of T20s to the patience game of Tests. The younger was not too far from breaking the India record of making the most runs on their Test debut, and so here are the batters with the most runs on their Test debut.

Shikhar Dhawan (187 runs vs Australia)

Insidesport

A player who was known for his performance in big matches and moments features first on the list. Dhawan was originally not supposed to play, as India had Virender Sehwag and Murali Vijay as their designated openers. But, after a poor showing with the bat, Dhawan replaced Sehwag in the third test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Dhawan played in his naturally aggressive style and made the fastest hundred by a debutant in Test history in just 85 balls. The southpaw, however, missed the double hundred by just 13 runs and couldn’t bat in the second inning due to an injury. After 10 years, the record still stands.

Rohit Sharma (177 vs West Indies)

A player known for his immense talent showcased why he was considered the best since Tendulkar on his Test debut. Rohit Sharma walked in when India was 82-4. The Mumbai batter displayed his full arsenal to a spirited West Indies side as he took India to a mammoth score of 436 by the time he got out for a well-made 177 off 301 balls. This was also where his love affair with the Eden Gardens started, as he bashed the Windies, scoring 23 boundaries and one six.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (171 vs West Indies)

The younger opener has shown incredible promise already, as he became just the seventh Indian to make a century on his debut since Virender Sehwag did in 2001 in South Africa. The opener looked to be dead set on tumbling one record after another as he looked to take the West Indies bowling line-up apart piece by piece, but eventually lost his patience against Alzarri Joseph and nicked one behind.

Shreyas Iyer (170 vs New Zealand)

Known for his prowess against spin, Shreyas Iyer tackled the Pacers incredibly well on his debut. An India side sans skipper Virat Kohli was 106-3 when Iyer walked in. The middle-order batter toiled hard and took India to 305 by the time he departed, scoring 105 of the 199 runs India made. Iyer once again came to India’s rescue in the second innings, as the top three were dismissed for just 41 this time. Iyer batted with four partners and took the side to a respectable total of 234/7 before India declared, and he was the highest scorer once again for his crucial 65 off 125 balls.

Lala Amarnath (156 vs England)

Insidesport

Unlike other players on the list, Lala Amarnath scored his first test century in the second innings of the match. This particular match in 1933 was the first match to be played in India. Against a strong England side, the Indian batters stood no chance as India were skittled out for 219, with Lala, while batting at three, top scoring (38). The England batters notched up 438 on the board, and in response, debutant Lala made an imperious 118 with 21 fours to his name, a record that stands on its own even after 90 years.
