Chelsea vs Wrexham Live: Club Friendlies LIVE – CHE vs WRX LIVE – The last season’s story for Chelsea and Wrexham could not be more different. The new Chelsea owners struggled to find their footing with one mistake after another. They ultimately ended their nightmare season in 12th place in the Premier League table. Whereas, Hollywood owners of Wrexham owners made their way into the fans’ hearts as they constantly rallied behind their team. Ultimately, they gained promotion to the Football League Two after 15 years.

Chelsea went through an ownership change at the start of the season. While this could have been marvelous news for the fans, it all turned rather nightmarish when all they could see were defeats after defeats. They changed 3 coaches as the owners first sacked Thomas Tuchel who won them the Champions League. However, that didn’t solve their problems as second coach Graham Potter won only 12 out of the 31 matches he managed. Next came former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as their caretaker manager.

Lampard could only save them from getting relegated at the end of the season. They ended the season in 12th place in the league table with points closer to the relegation zone than the European competition qualifying zone. The last time they ranked worse than this was back in the 1993-94 season when they ended in 14th place. Fans are looking ahead to a more positive season with the attack-minded coach Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival. They will wait to see a good start to the pre-season with wins.

While change or coaches were not even the tip of the iceberg of Chelsea’s owners’ problems, Wrexham had the opposite experience with the arrival of their Hollywood owners. Owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were the talk of the season around the world for all the right reasons. They helped their team on a constant basis with a boost in morale and all kinds of support. As a result, Wrexham made the league a two-horse race between them and Notts County. With only a single place for promotion up for grabs, they defeated Notts County in April.

Following the win, there was only the way above for the Red Dragons. They sealed their promotion to the Football League Two with a 3-1 win against Boreham Wood on April 22 where the owners were present to celebrate with their team. They secured a huge 111 points to get back to the Football League Two after 15 years of waiting. They’ve already got back to business in the hopes of another promotion to Football League One this year. However, the players got a Hollywood-style celebration as a courtesy of the owners before that.

Chelsea Team News

  • A total of 11 Chelsea players have been shown the door this transfer window. Along with them, the Blues have some additional injury concerns. Benoit Badiashile is yet to recover from his hamstring issue, Armandro Broja is still suffering from his knee problem, and Marcus Bettinelli is still out due to an unspecified injury. Wesley Forsna has also joined the trio as he is still recovering from his ACL surgery.
  • With the injured players, Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have not flown to the United States as their agents are trying to force exits. Whereas, Gabriel Slonian, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Levi Colwill have been included in the squad. Reece James has also stayed back because of some illness. However, he could travel later in the week if he recovers soon.
  • Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Malo Gusto could all be making their non-competitive debuts for the Blues on Wednesday. However, their depleted midfield only has Cesare Casadei, Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka, Andrey Santos, and Conor Gallagher in their ranks to play against Wrexham.

Wrexham Team News

  • Wrexham have been quiet on the transfer front so far. They have only brought in the 27-year-old Will Boyle from Huddersfield Town. However, their most talked-about business in this transfer window has been extending the contract of the 40-year-old star goalkeeper Ben Foster for another season as they return to the Football League Two.
  • They have also received a couple of fitness boosts ahead of their clash with Chelsea. Bryce Hosannah and Aaron Hayden have both returned to training after recovering from their respective injuries. They even played in the recent practice match which is a good sign considering they had to be absent for the last few weeks of the last season.
  • Striker Paul Mullin played a key role in their fairytale promotion to the fourth division league as he scored a total of 38 goals from 46 appearances last season. He should be featuring against Chelsea before weaving his magic in the fourth-tier competition another time after the 2020-21 season. He scored another impressive 32 goals that season in the Football League Two for Cambridge United.
