Monaco GP: Formula 1: Ahead of the Monaco GP later this week, F1 drivers took to the Football field for an all-star charity game. This highly anticipated game was hosted at Monaco’s famous Stade Louis II stadium earlier today. Leclerc being the homeboy and a football enthusiast was named the captain of his team. The Monegasque, along with his close friend and Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was seen around the park having fun in the game. Meanwhile, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was also seen splashing his Spanish charisma on the field.

However, the match did not go as expected for the local boy Leclerc. The game saw Leclerc face-planting the floor and then missing an open goal all within 90 seconds. It was much like his on-track campaign this season. The Ferrari prodigy has just one podium finish in the 5 races so far, including 2 DNFs. Reliability issues and unprecedented crises personified his season so far.

Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc suffered minor injuries

The 23rd edition of the all-star charity match was surely an exciting event for the fans. The fact that it happens ahead of the Monaco GP every year enables a huge audience turnout. In addition to it, Fernando Alonso and Novak Djokovic being on the field is reason enough for any event to flourish. The proceeds from this charity match go towards the betterment of children. However, for a good cause, taking to the field is always a risky option.

After the match, Ferrari man Carlos Sainz was seen with a bandage. He was treated on the right thigh after getting substituted in the second half. A similar incident also happened last year when the camera spotted the Spaniard putting ice on his ankle. That, however, did not stop him from participating in the race weekend where he finished 2nd.

Apart from Sainz, his teammate Leclerc also found himself in a tough spot when he face-planted the floor in an attempt to equalize the score line with 30 minutes to go. The Monegasque will enter this season’s Monaco GP with an aim to win for his home crowd. Ferrari has a superior speed on slow-end corners, which dominate the circuit. This time around, the Red Team will surely aim to conquer Monaco and take the prestige and bragging rights from Red Bull.
