This is not the first time when we saw such stories revolving around Perez’s resignation. In 2018-19, fans also wanted him to step down from his position. He took over as the president of Real Madrid back in 2000 from Lorenzo Sans. Since then, he added big value to the club. Perez was also behind in bringing top players to the Spanish capital such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Robinho.
Meanwhile, Perez has resigned from his post in 2006 was he was reappointed as president of the club in 2009. In his second stint with Real Madrid, the club achieved big success in European competition such as winning three consecutive Champions League titles under Zidane. They are the best side in the Champions League history.
He can face backlash from his rivals but he will go down as one of the club’s most successful presidents in history. Amid his resignation rumours, Perez is likely to get the honour as there is a proposal to change the name of ‘Real Madrid Sports City’ to ‘Florentino Perez Sports City’. The Real Madrid Sports City covers 1.2 million square metres which was inaugurated in 2005. It has 11 natural and artificial grass football pitches and a stadium.
Real Madrid are currently making a focus on the summer transfer window and Florentino Perez is also involved in it with Carlo Ancelotti. They signed Jude Bellingham this summer and it was their best signing. They still need to stable their squad after the departure of some big names like Benzema. Mbappe’s move is also their priority. The Frenchman is put on sale by PSG and is likely to join the Spanish giants in 2024.
