Not just in the field of football, even in other sports, Spain has undergone transition. 14th July is a day that La Roja fans will always remember. First, Carlos Alcaraz outclassed Novak Djokovic in straight sets to lift the crown at Wimbledon. And 4 hours later, Alvaro Morata led Spain lift the Euro Cup for their 4th time in Berlin.
Alcaraz outclasses Djokovic
A 21- year old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz outclasses Novak Djokovic – This is a statement that barely anyone will believe. Djokovic is a modern day great along with the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal was humbled the youngster. Carlos beat the Serbian 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Spanish Armada goes on!
And in football, it is the twinkled toed Lamine Yamal who has hogged the limelight. Turned 17 years yesterday, the young Barcelona winger is now a Euro Cup winner. He dazzled into the scene after his breakthrough with Barcelona. But the highlight came when he scored a stunner against France in the semi finals.
And in the all-important finals, he had to deliver – as if it was written in the stars. Throughout the entire first half he was bottled necked by English left back Luke Shaw. But 2 minutes into the second half, seeing the defender away from him, he cut inside to lay off to Nico Williams. And the 22-year old left forward calmly placed the ball in the net, despite Jordan Pickford’s full stretched save. And Yamal gets awarded with the young player of the tournament.
