A lone first half goal from Liverpool’s new goalscoring hero Fabinho saw them keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table in difficult conditions at Turf Moor. After Weghorst missed a series of big chances when put through on goal for Burnley, they were typically undone by those misses shortly before half-time amid incessant rainfall.
A Trent Alexander-Arnold was met by a flick on for Fabinho, whose initial attempt was saved but he reacted fastest to the follow-up to stab it home for his fifth goal of 2022. That proved to be the only goal, with the Reds surviving some hair moments, and sees Liverpool reduce the gap at the top to nine points again, while also having a game in hand.
