Bundesliga 2021-22 – Lucac Hernandez Jail Term: Hernandez, who was in the 2018 World Cup-winning team of France has denied an appeal by the criminal court in Madrid against a previous suspended prison sentence for flouting the restraining order, according to a document released by the court. The document also revealed that Hernandez had been denied the appeal as he had been given two previous criminal sentences relating to the 2017 domestic violence incident.

In Spain, those sentenced to less than two years do not usually go to prison, but in this case, as it was a repeat offence, Hernandez has been ordered to be sent to jail for 6 terms.

Bundesliga 2021-22 – Lucac Hernandez Jail Term: The France defender will have to appear in front of the Madrid court on October 19, from which he has 10 days to voluntarily enter prison. Hernandez has appealed against the latest order.

Hernandez was sentenced to 31 days of community service for assaulting his then-girlfriend and now wife in February 2017, when he was an Atletico Madrid player. His girlfriend was taken to hospital with minor injuries following a fight between them.

What was the restraining order?

Hernandez was given a restraining order barring him from being within 500 metres of his spouse. Hernandez’s partner was also given 31 days of community service for violence, assault and damage to property. They were also ordered not to see each other for six months.

Hernandez was arrested in June 2017 for flouting the restraining order after landing in Madrid along with his wife following their marriage and honeymoon.

France defender Hernandez joined Atletico in 2014 before moving to Bayer in 2019 for 80 million euros. He has represented France in 29 matches and was part of the 2018 World Cup-winning team. He also played a crucial part in the team’s 2021 UEFA Nations League success.
