Bukayo Saka suffers injury vs Sevilla in their UCL group stage game as Gunners sweat their star winger's fitness

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka was forced off the field due to injury during their Champions League match against Sevilla. In a major setback for the Gunners, the winger was substituted off by Mikel Arteta after going down twice. Saka seemed to clumsily roll his ankle over the last ten minutes. This will be a big blow to the Gunners and they will be hoping that this is nothing too serious.

Arsenal worried over Bukayo Saka’s injury

After collapsing twice due to the injury, he collapsed once more, and the Arsenal medical staff attended to him. In the end, Arteta decided to substitute Jakub Kiwior for Bukayo Saka as his team held onto their 2-0 lead.

The England star had given a great performance for Arsenal supporters prior to his injury. At the Emirates Stadium, Saka set up Leandro Trossard for the game’s first goal. After an hour, he joined in on the act himself, scoring his sixth goal of the season to double the home side’s lead.

He was not able to finish the game, though, and referee Istvan Kovacs even gave him a booking as he was leaving the field. Bukayo Saka’s injury occurred just a few days before Arsenal’s Saturday afternoon Premier League matchup with Burnley.

Reacting to the injury on social media, supporters are now worried about their chances of winning the title. One fan wrote, ‘I hope that is not a serious injury for Saka and we are good.’ Another added, ‘Waiting for Saka injury news and hope it’s not something serious as he was great today.’ A third also commented, ‘Hate to see Saka leave the match with an injury. Hope he will be alright.’

Bukayo Saka was forced to withdraw from international duty owing to a thigh ailment that also prevented him from playing in the October match against Manchester City.

Arteta’s words on Saka’s injury

Mikel Arteta too provided an update on Bukayo Saka’s injury. He said, ‘At the end he wasn’t comfortable to carry on. Hopefully it’s not too much but I’m really pleased with his performance. I think he’s getting used to it (being kicked).’

He continued, ‘I don’t think that’s going to change, especially with the way he plays and the way he attracts players, so he better get used to it because I don’t think it’s going to change. It was just a kick and I was told by the physios on the radio he wasn’t happy to continue. So he will have some discomfort but hopefully I am going to assume he will be OK.’

Arsenal fans will be praying to the higher-ups that this injury is nothing serious. They missed Bukayo Saka in their crunch game vs Manchester City earlier in October. This time, with Arteta’s words, maybe it is nothing more than a niggle. The Gunners faithful will be hoping to see him in the starting eleven when Arsenal play this weekend.
