Ivan Toney Banned: Brentford and England forward Ivan Toney has been handed an eight-month ban from football following betting offences. Toney faced 232 charges related to violations of the Football Association’s gambling regulations, covering the period between 2017 and 2021. Additional charges, amounting to 30, were presented by the FA for incidents occurring between 2017 and 2019. However, these later charges were subsequently withdrawn.
In addition to the ban, Toney has been fined £50,000 and cautioned regarding his future behavior for committing 232 infractions of the Football Association’s betting regulations.
While the suspension takes effect immediately, Toney will be allowed to resume training with Brentford four months before its official conclusion on September 17.
However, he will remain ineligible to participate in matches until January 17, 2024.
“Ivan Toney has been suspended from all football and football-related activity with immediate effect for eight months, which runs up to and including 16 January 2024, fined £50,000 and warned as to his future conduct for breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules.
The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.”
FA StatementToney will miss Brentford’s trip to Tottenham on Saturday and away game against league leaders Manchester City on 28 May.
