Brazil vs Guinea: Selecao look to turn their fate around by winning with young squad

Brazil were on a 15-match unbeaten run going into the World Cup. However, since then, their fate has turned for the worse. Now, they have won only one of their last four matches. They will look to turn it around starting with a win against Guinea with a young squad to lead them.

Brazil vs Guinea: International Friendlies – Brazil were one of the favourites going into the World Cup. However, since then their form has gone downhill. Tite stayed as Brazil’s coach for 6 years and he wanted to end his time in charge by winning the World Cup. However, they got knocked out of the tournament from the quarter-finals. Since then, they have also lost the only friendly match they played. With no permanent coach by their side, they will be looking to make a comeback as they go against Guinea.

Brazil were on a 15-match unbeaten streak before they started their World Cup journey. Going into the tournament, they were one of the favourites to win the World Cup trophy. However, while they won the first two group matches against Serbia and Switzerland, they lost their last group match against Cameroon. They comfortably defeated South Korea 4-1 in their round-of-16 match. However, going into the quarter-final, they faced Croatia who turned out to be the one mountain they could not cross.

The match remained goalless for the official 90 minutes. As it went into extra time, Neymar broke the deadlock at the 105+1st minute. They were on their way to the semi-final if they could only hold on for 15 more minutes. However, as 3 minutes were left for the extra time to end, Bruno Petkovic scored the equalizer for Croatia. Going into the penalty shootout Selecao lost the match 4-2. Since their departure from the World Cup, they have played only one friendly match in March.

They played their only friendly against Morocco in March which they lost by 2-1 margin. Sofiane Boufal took the lead for Morocco in the 29th minute of the match. Casemieo equalized for Brazil in the 67th minute. However, Brazil could not score any more goals, while Abdelhamid Sabiri took the lead again for Morocco in the 79th minute and won the match. This loss brought their record to an unfortunate point as they only had a single win in their last four matches.

Tite left Brazil after the World Cup and since then, Brazil have remained without a permanent coach to guide them. The U20 team coach Ramon Menezes has taken the helm till a permanent coach arrives. He will be looking to turn the tables around before they start their 2026 World Cup qualifications journey in September. Similar to their last match against Morocco, coach Menezes will be lining up a wide number of uncapped players. Along with calling star players, the coach has called up six uncapped players on this occasion.

Several star players for Brazil will be missing the match as club season ended only recently in Europe. Andrey Santos and Emerson Royal both will miss Brazil’s two matches against Guinea and Senegal. Vanderson will probably replace Royal at the right-back position. The coach could call up Bruno Guimaraes in the midfield. However, any of the new players – Andre, Joelinton, or Raphael Veiga could also start instead. Rodrygo could be starting in the right flank to give a chance to Pedro or Richarlison in the center.

Brazil Probable Starting XI: Alisson; Vanderson, Ibanez, Militao, Telles; Paqueta, Casemiro, Guimaraes; Rodrygo, Richarlison, Vinicius Junior
