Will Pep Guardiola take up Brazil national team’s job?

Brazil was knocked out of the quarterfinal stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on penalties by Croatia. Following the defeat, coach Tite decided to resign from his post. Guardiola was already on the wishlist of Brazil’s football federation and had been previously approached for the job. However, the former footballer had decided against taking the position.

When Guardiola was asked on his thoughts to take up the coaching role, the Spaniard said, “In Brazil, Tite announced that he will leave after the Qatar World Cup. I know you have a dream of managing a National Team. Could Brazil be part of your dream?”. He added, “Brazil has very good Brazilian coaches who have to coach the national team… There are very good Brazilian coaches. Debate closed!”

With the post now vacant, the south American giants will be keen to land the Spaniard for the role.  Guardiola is a proven manager at the club level. However, he does not have experience coaching the national team. The Spaniard is currently contracted to Manchester City until 2025. However, the offer to take up the coaching role of the Brazil team will be a tempting one.

Fernando Diniz of Fluminense, Abel Ferreira of Palmeiras and Rogerio Ceni of Sport have also been linked to the position. If Guardiola ends up taking the Brazil Football team’s job then he would become the first non-Brazilian to take over the Selecao. However, if he rejects the offer the question is whether the CBF will interview the above-mentioned candidates.
