Brazil confirm Dorival Junior as national team’s new coach

The previous coach, Fernando Diniz, resigned from leading the Brazil team last Friday following which Junior has been named his replacement

Brazil named Dorival Junior as the national football team’s new coach after Fernando Diniz resigned from his position last week. Junior, who has been coaching the Sao Paulo team, has been handed over the reigns of the team.

From Sao Paulo to the national team

The previous coach, Fernando Diniz, resigned from leading the Brazilian national team last Friday. The federation officials did not wait to hire a new person. They could not delay, because the Copa America will start in half a year.

To work with the team, Dorival Junior resigned from his job in Sao Paulo. For the experienced coach, it was his second stint with this club. He previously worked in southern Brazil in the years 2017-2018.

So far, Brazil has been disappointing in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. After 6 rounds, they have only 2 victories. The last 4 matches are only one point won in the match with Venezuela. They are in 6th place in the table with 7 points.
