Bournemouth vs Luton Town suspended as Tom Lockyer collapses on pitch

Know why Bournemouth vs Luton Town was suspended

The Premier League match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was called off in the second half with a score of 1-1 when Luton captain Tom Lockyer fainted on the ground on Saturday.

Luton had grabbed the lead in the third minute thanks to a goal from Elijah Adebayo. However, a minute before Lockyer slumped, Dominic Solanke equalised for the home side. Players were then ordered to return to their locker rooms as medical personnel proceeded to treat Lockyer. Medical personnel ultimately stretchered off the centre-back.

During Saturday’s cancelled clash against Bournemouth, Luton captain Tom Lockyer was involved in a frightening incident that required paramedic attention. The centre-back went down during the second half of the game, prompting immediate treatment from the medical staff on the pitch.

In quick response to the situation, Luton boss Rob Edwards rushed onto the field, signaling his players to move away from the incident. Subsequently, a collective decision was made to postpone the game due to the concerning scenes.

Following the worrying incident, players were instructed to return to the dressing rooms as medical staff continued to attend to Lockyer. Eventually, the centre-back was stretchered off by the medical team. Lockyer had previously faced a similar health scare during Luton’s Championship play-off final against Coventry last season.

He received hospital treatment and underwent heart surgery after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a condition characterized by an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate, as described by the NHS. Remarkably, Lockyer recovered and played a significant role in Luton’s first-ever Premier League campaign. The 29-year-old had made 14 appearances in the top flight for the Hatters earlier in the current season.
