The 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship, Euro 2024 is well underway. As thrilling as the games have been in Germany, in a surprising turn of events, OWN GOALS top the chart of the goals scored so far. As of Saturday, June 22, there have been a bizarre number of SIX own goals scored at the Euros this year.
Own goals top charts in Euro 2024
Euro 2024 is on set to break the record for a number of own goals in a single season. The current record stands at 11 own goals, set during the most recent tournament three years ago. Surprisingly, there have only been 25 own goals in the 17 Euros tournaments to far.
Portugal tops the list, having scored three own-goals in prior editions. Over time, Germany and Croatia have also caught a few. Glen Johnson, a former Premier League and England international, has scored the Three Lions’ first-ever own goal during a Euros competition.
