The Blues began their Indian Super League (ISL) season in a disappointing fashion, losing to the highly-regarded Kerala Blasters in their ISL opener courtesy of an own goal and a spectacular strike from Adrian Luna.
Their second match against ISL champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant was another forgettable encounter. The southern side was shown two red cards in the match where Hugo Boumous scored the only goal. Sunil Chhetri’s side finally lodged their first points in this season’s ISL against East Bengal. Sunil Chettri and Javi Hernández scored for the Blues to hand them their first win of ISL 10.
The Gaurs on the other hand are having a dream start to this season’s ISL. FC Goa started this season with a win against new entrants Punjab FC in their opening matchday. They then beat Odisha FC courtesy of a brace from Noah Sadoui and a late winner by Jay Gupta. The Gaurs looked to be heading towards their first loss in the third game against East Bengal but two quick goals from Sandesh Jhingan and Victor Rodriguez helped turn the tie around for the side.
“The team seems to be playing better when we are losing, when we are under pressure, and there seems to be a need to show that we can play good football. We have enough quality to avoid such situations. The league is a tough competition and Bengaluru will be another very good opponent. They have the same coach (from last season), good results, but even at the cost of being repetitive, I would say every game is tough,” FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez said ahead of the game.
