Valencia has been forced to defend against Barcelona’s assault without club captain José Gayà, who sprained his ankle against Getafe. Regrettably, there are still absences on the squad roster after Gayà. The injured players are Jaume Doménech (knee), Marcos de Sousa (ankle), Edinson Cavani (thigh), Nico González (foot), and Gabriel Paulista (leg).

Despite being reduced to 10 men for the final 30 minutes, Raphinha’s first-half header was enough to give LaLiga leaders Barcelona a slender victory over struggling Valencia on Sunday. Hugo Guillamon’s handball inside the box in the 55th minute cost Barcelona a wonderful chance to double their advantage after Valencia came back from the interval in control. When Ferran Torres missed the goal with his penalty attempt, it was wasted.

Nevertheless, five minutes later, they lost defender Ronald Araujo to a straight red card for a last-man tackle on Hugo Duro, and Barcelona found it difficult to maintain their lead in the final 30 minutes. In the 85th minute, Valencia players protested ineffectively over what they believed to be a clear foul committed by Franck Kessie on Fran Perez inside the penalty area. Fran Perez, Jesus Vazquez, and Yunus Musah all had excellent opportunities to equalise.
