Barcelona vs Alaves: La Blaugrana determined to climb higher in La Liga table

Barcelona will be without the services of Sergi Roberto and Gavi this weekend against Alaves.

Barcelona vs Alaves Live: La Liga LIVE – BAR vs ALA LIVE – Barcelona welcome Alaves in the hopes of going back to winning ways. La Blaugrana have lost 2 of their last 3 games in all competitions. They are also in 3rd place in the La Liga table. On the other hand, Alaves are on a 2-match winning streak in all competitions. El Glorioso will be looking to build up on those wins. They are sitting in 14th place in the league table and will look to climb higher.

Barcelona needed only one win to solidify their position in the Champions League knockout stages. However, they were defeated by a 1-0 margin by Shakhtar Donetsk. This brought their tally to 2 defeats in their last 3 matches.

The other defeat came in the El Clasico at the end of October. They came back to winning ways last weekend when they won by a narrow 0-1 margin against Real Sociedad. La Blaugrana will look to build on that win and climb higher in the La Liga table.

Alaves got promoted to Spain’s top-flight competition this season and are trying to stay above the relegation zone. They’ve collected 12 points from the first 12 games of the season. However, they now have a 2-game winning run ahead of their clash against Barcelona.

El Glorioso won their last La Liga game against Almeria by a 1-0 margin. Before that, they won 0-10 against Deportivo Murcia in the Copa Del Rey first round. They will look to get one over the reigning champions and extend their winning streak.

Barcelona Team News

  • Barcelona are slowly coming out of the injury-plagued phase. However, they will still surely be out of at least 2 key players. Gavi will be missing this match. He will be serving out his suspension as he picked up a booking in the last match. In the meantime, Sergi Roberto will remain on the sidelines due to a calf problem.
  • On top of them, 2 more key players could be doubtful for the match. Frenkie de Jong has an ankle issue which is taking time to recover. Ronald Araujo has been suffering from injuries for some time. He was even suffering from some discomfort after their Champions League clash this midweek. However, he should be fit for the match against Alaves.
  • Coach Xavi was absolutely not happy with the team’s performance in the Champions League. Hence, he should be making a few changes to the squad that started that match. Fermin Lopez, Joao Felix, Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde should get a call-up to the starting XI. It’s doubtful whether the coach will allow Pedri for the full match, so he could start on the bench.

Alaves Team News

  • El Glorioso have three players in their medical room recovering from various injuries. Aleksandar Sedlar scored the only goal for Alaves that won them the match against Almeria last weekend. However, he then picked a knee injury which turned out to be quite serious. The defender will now be out for the rest of this season.
  • In addition to Sedlar, Giuliano Simeone and Carlos Benavidez are also out with injuries. Simeone sustained a brutal leg injury two months ago. He is yet to recover and it might take him till December to return. Benavidez was not a part of their last weekend’s game against Almeria due to an undisclosed injury. He is a doubt for this match as well.
  • El Glorioso’s success against Almeria last weekend could see the coach line up the same starting XI against Barcelona. That means former Real Madrid midfielder, Antonio Blanco will also start the match against the reigning champions. However, the absence of Sedlar will see Rafa Marin take his place in the defense line.
