Barcelona are set to join the race to sign Feyenoord sensation Santi Gimenez who they believe to have Luis Suarez’s goalscoring instincts. Reportedly, Real Madrid are eyeing a move for the forward along with the Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur. However, he won’t come cheap for any of them as Gimenez already has a contract with Feyenoord that is set to last till 2027. Reportedly, they could also ask for €50 million for the youngster. Hence, considering Barcelona’s financial situation, Gimenez might not be a viable choice after all.
Santi Gimenez is the 22-year-old Feyenoord striker who has contributed a lot to their good form this season. In his 10 appearances for the club in the domestic league, Gimenez has scored 13 goals. He also scored a brace during their Champions League win against Lazio in the group stage match. His current contract with Feyenoord ends in 2027. He has also said that there hasn’t been any transfer talks yet upon asking. However, his great form is attracting several renowned European clubs.
As per reports, Barcelona and Real Madrid are monitoring his situation closely. English giants Tottenham Hotspur could also go big for the forward. They think Gimenez can be a good replacement for Harry Kane. On the other hand, Barcelona have been monitoring him and actively scouting since 2022 when he joined the Eredivisie club from Cruz Azul. Apparently, La Blaugrana believe that Gimenez also has the amazing goalscoring instincts that Luis Suarez possessed. Suarez played for Barcelona between 2014 and 2020 AMD helped them win many trophies.
It’s hard to say whether Gimenez would be able to perform like Suarez when he would have to play against Europe’s top clubs. However, the Catalan club are set to compete with Real Madrid for the young striker. However, there have also been reports that considering the striker’s talents, Feyenoord could ask for at least €50 million. Barcelona are going through a major financial crisis which is yet to be solved. They also signed Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense on a €30 million fee that could rise up to €61 million with add-ons.
