Barcelona Financial Crisis: On brink of Champions League EXIT, Cash-strapped La Liga giants set to lose 18 million euros – check out
Xavi had taken control of a dismal Barcelona back in 2021 and the board was full of hope that the marquee midfielder would rejuvenate the Barca side. Under Valverde and Ronald Koeman, Barca struggled for European glory. The financially broken Barcelona board gambled 132 million euros this season for the gaffer’s dream team. In return, their task was a place in the UCL quarter-final phase.
With the likes of Robert Lewandowski on their side, this seemed like an achievable goal. The board had budgeted for a quarter-final place in the UCL to bear the reported 132 million euro spending in the summer. However, things started going southwards for the Catalans on the European front right from the beginning. From being selected in the ‘group of death’ to losing two of the starting games, nothing went according to plan.

Barcelona Financial Crisis: On brink of Champions League exit, Cash strapped La liga giants set to lose 18 million euros- check out
Now according to the Spanish sports magazine Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona board will lose a whopping 18 million euros from their early exit. Barca, who are already in the middle of financial adversity, can salvage some money if they go on and win the Europa League as the prize money for winning it, is 13 million euros.
Barca however will fight tooth and nail for qualification into the round of sixteen. They need to win their remaining matches and hope for a miracle in the San Siro for any hopes of that happening. The Xavi brigade are, however, doing exceptionally well in La Liga as they are on the top of the table, beating the Los Blancos on goal difference.
