It’s big news for the people of Shillong as they will see their Indian senior men’s team play at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This will be the first time that JLN Shillong hosts India senior men’s international matches after the stadium was refurbished last year.
Two matches are set to take place at the 15,100-seater stadium: India vs Maldives, a FIFA International Friendly, and India vs Bangladesh, part of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers final round.
While this will be its first senior international outing post-renovation, JLN Shillong is no stranger to big football games. The stadium has previously hosted matches in domestic tournaments and leagues, including the Durand Cup, Indian Super League, I-League, and I-League 2nd Division. Now, fans can expect this stadium to create even more memorable moments for football lovers.

Speaking of India’s schedule, one of the most important events ahead is the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round. India has been placed in Group C alongside Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangladesh. The matches will follow a home-and-away round-robin format, running until March 2026. The group winners will earn a spot in the prestigious Asian Cup tournament.
In addition to these qualifiers, India is also set to face Malaysia in a FIFA International Friendly on March 19.
