The London based outfit was awarded the 2021 Ballon d’or club of the year award for the brilliant performances of both the men’s as well as the women’s team: The Blues have had a sensational year all round, in which senior men’s team was crowned European Champions only for the 2nd time in their entire history after they defeated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester city in the final. The Women’s team were Women’s Super League champions under coach Emma Hayes. The women’s team also did the entire club proud when they made the Women Champions League final, unfortunately losing out to eventual winners Barcelona.

The Blues had a number of players aiming for awards in their respective categories, which highlighted how well both the men’s and women’s teams had fared in their respective campaigns. Chelsea’s star Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy eventually came second in the Yashin Trophy (goalkeeper’s award) behind Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Italy midfielder Jorginho finished third only behind Leo Messi and Robert Lewandowski and N’Golo Kante finished fifth in the men’s Ballon d’Or rankings. While Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount and Romelu Lukaku all finished outside the top 10.
Some group. 😍

For the women’s Feminin award, Chelsea had four players on the 10-strong shortlist – Sam Kerr finishing third as the highest-ranked of them.
However, consolation followed for the club as an entire entity as they were named the top side overall for their on-pitch efforts. That follows the men winning the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel, while the women’s side were WSL champions under Emma Hayes.
