West Ham and Maguire had reached an agreement on a cost of £30 million last Wednesday.

However, The 30-year-old Englishman was reportedly seeking a pay-off of almost £15 million.

Additionally, United was aware that finding a successor at this point in the summer transfer season would not be an easy task had they decided to sell Maguire. Ten Hag wants to have a choice of four center backs and is content with Maguire as a stand-in.

Maguire’s struggles at Man United

The 30-year-old has struggled since arriving at United in a record-breaking £80 million transfer from Leicester in 2019. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named him club captain after he immediately made an impression on him.

But over the past few years, he has struggled and received harsh criticism, which led to Ten Hag removing him as club captain earlier this summer.
