“The FA is aware of the matter in question and are looking into it,” an FA spokesperson told The Athletic. Players have been issued with lengthy suspensions in the past after being found guilty of manipulating games for betting purposes.
In 2018, Lincoln City defender Bradley Wood was handed a six-year ban for intentionally receiving yellow cards. Since the start of the 2016/17 season, Granit Xhaka has received more cards (50) than any other player in the Premier League having played 171 games and has received 46 yellow cards and 4 red cards.
“We didn’t have the players necessary to put a squad out to compete in a Premier League match, that is 100 percent,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
“This is a no-win situation. When we play the first three games of the season when other games were off, we were killed and called naive. Now we postpone a match for all the right reasons, believe me, and we get these reactions?”
