Arsenal Injury Update: Premier League: When it rains, it pours. It just hasn’t been a good month and a half for the Gunners and their fans too. They were knocked out of the Europa League, wherein they would have hoped to make it to the semi-finals, but they got knocked out in the Round of 16. Even in the Premier League, they had an 8-point lead but they blew it all up and now, Man City are one point ahead, with a game in hand. Now, reports say that they have lost Centre-half William Saliba and left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko to injuries until the end of the season. Follow Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Two of Arsenal’s top players were sidelined for the remainder of the season, which dealt a severe blow to their title ambitions. Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left and William Saliba in the center have both been instrumental in the Gunners’ success this season.

However, because of their injuries, Mikel Arteta’s team will now have to play without them during the final Premier League stretch. Saliba, a 22-year-old Frenchman, has been a rock in the back alongside Gabriel this season but in March was injured in the Europa League loss to Sporting Lisbon.

Zinchenko, a Ukrainian international, suffered a calf injury during Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Newcastle. Arteta has now realized that neither of them would be fully fit before the final game of the season on 28th May. The two are not anticipated to need surgery, though.

Saliba has been out of action for eight of Arsenal’s games, including a difficult stretch of games last month that resulted in them shedding points and giving rival Manchester City the advantage at the top of the table. Before his setback, he had made 33 appearances for the North London club across all leagues.

Zinchenko, who transferred from City to the Emirates last summer, has also participated 33 times. Rob Holding was initially paired with Gabriel after Saliba’s injury, but Scottish international Kieran Tierney will fill in for him. Jakub Kiwior, a player from Poland, began the last two games, which were triumphs against Chelsea and Newcastle. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also out and could be sidelined for another six months after undergoing a major knee operation in March.

Arsenal’s final stretch in the Premier League

The Gunners will be keeping their fingers crossed as we near the end of the Premier League season. They are in second place on the table right now, having played one game more than City in the League. City are one point ahead of them and also have a game in hand, so they are in a good position

Arsenal’s final 3 games

  • Brighton and Hove Albion – 14th May
  • Nottingham Forest – 20th May
  • Wolves – 28th May

If Man City win their extra game, then the Gunners will need City to either lose 2 games or lose one and draw one. It does seem slightly unlikely but Arsenal fans will be keeping their hopes up. An exciting end of the Premier League season awaits.
