Messi will participate in his 25th World Cup semi-final against Croatia on Tuesday, matching German legend Lothar Matthaus, who appeared in every event between 1982 and 1998. He will break the record if Argentina defeats Croatia in the final, or in the third-place play-off if Argentina loses.
