“I have players who have been injured before. Karim is one of them. The last to be injured is is Lucas Hernandez. Since then, I have 24 players to manage and you know them. To ask the question vis-a-vis these players, if I may say so, is at least clumsy, if not a little more. The group is there. I don’t take care of the invitations of players, former players or injured players. I don’t know who will be there.”
Prior to these events, the media broke out when it was revealed that Karim Benzema was upset with the manager. He revealed that he was sent off from the squad by Deschamps and didn’t leave of his own free will. Benzema then took a dig at the team by posting a picture on social media that contained the caption saying, “I’m not interested.”

France has been plagued with injuries from the very start of the tournament. They lost the likes of Paul Pogba and N’golo Kante with injuries as the midfield duo failed to make it to the France squad. Benzema, Nkunku too were left out after suffering injuries.
“Some players have been injured and Karim Benzema is one of them and Lucas Hernandez got injured in the first game. From that point on, I have 24 players in my squad and they are the ones at my disposal, so I don’t think it is fair to those players to ask about players who aren’t here,” Deschamps said.

“It is not up to me to decide who comes to watch the game, former players or injured players, I focus on my squad and the players at my disposal. We have lost three – Christopher Nkunku, Karim Benzema and Lucas Hernandez – and I lost them even though they were in the squad to begin with. So now I am focusing on my 24-man squad and they are the ones I will have at my disposal tomorrow,” he concluded.
The defending champions were hit by a virus that also kept out certain players from the squad like star defender Rafael Varane. “We are trying to manage this as best as we can and remain calm and focused. We are doing our best to take precautions and adapt and live with it without going too far but doing what is necessary. We would have preferred not to face this but are managing it as best as we can.”
