Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni is set to meet with Lionel Messi in Rosario on Wednesday. This meeting comes after Scaloni raised doubts about his future as Argentina’s coach last year, sparking speculations about potential changes in leadership.
Rumors surrounding Scaloni’s future gained traction following his previous statements, and according to Leo Paradizo, Wednesday’s meeting with Messi might revolve around discussions regarding Scaloni’s continuation as the head of the national team.
“I have to think a lot about what to do. It’s not goodbye but the bar is very high. This group demands you permanently. This team needs a coach who has all the energy possible and be well.” told Scaloni during the press conference.
Scaloni’s uncertainties arose after Argentina’s victory over Brazil and stemmed from a tense period marked by a clash between the police and Argentine fans. During the World Cup qualifiers, Messi led his teammates off the pitch without consulting Scaloni, causing friction between the team captain and the coaching staff.
Despite these challenges, Scaloni’s leadership brought notable success, notably securing a historic victory for Argentina in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This achievement led to an extension of his contract through 2026. However, recent events have raised doubts about whether he will see out this extended tenure amidst growing uncertainties about his future role.
