Antony in UK to undergo voluntary questioning by Manchester Police

Antony returned to Manchester from Brazil on Tuesday, having been in the country since he was called up to the Brazilian national team

Antony has travelled back to the United Kingdom and is scheduled to meet with the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) as part of the inquiry into allegations of abuse levelled at the Manchester United forward, according to various reports.

Antony returned to Manchester from Brazil on Tuesday, having been in the country since he was called up to the Brazilian national team following the club’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on September 3rd. However, the CBF subsequently withdrew him from the squad.

On September 10, Antony & Manchester United confirmed that the striker had accepted a leave of absence from his duties. He accepted the leave to deal with the accusations levied against him by three female sources, including his ex-fiancée Gabriele Cavallin.

Antony has not played for United since the game at the Emirates, and there is no timetable for his return to the squad.

The Brazilian flew has agreed to voluntarily meet with GMP.

ESPN has reported that the player is willing to provide GMP with his phone in order to demonstrate his innocence. United has stated that they are taking the accusations seriously.

The investigation into the incident is currently underway in both Brazil and Manchester. The Brazilian police had raised no any objections to the former Ajax striker’s arrival in the United Kingdom.

Insidesport

In a previous statement Antony said: “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me. This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club. I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible.”
