Angel Di Maria has announced his desire to leave Argentina after the 2024 Copa America. Angel Di Maria has been a part of Argentina’s national team for the longest time. The striker made his international debut in 2008 and has 132 caps for his country.
“I will leave Argentina national team after Copa América — it’s over for me” Di Maria told Todo Pasa.
After next year’s continental competition, the winger plans to retire from international football. During the Qatar World Cup, Di Maria was in spectacular form. He was a key player of the team that won the third world title, ending a 36-year drought. He scored in the final versus France and was a force on the pitch for the entire 120 minutes.
Di Maria also scored in the Copa America final victory over Brazil in 2021. He also scored in the 2022 Finalissima victory against Italy, cementing his legend in Albiceleste colours. El FIdeo was considered to be on the same level as Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Mario Kempes.
Di Maria has 132 games and 29 goals since making his debut in a World Cup qualifying against Paraguay in 2008. The Copa America 2024 will take place in June of next year. With the national team, Angel Di Maria hopes for a storybook ending.
