Any international footballer would want to end their career on a high, perhaps with a trophy. So when Argentina winger Angel Di Maria announced his retirement last November, he would have hoped to sign off with the Copa America Trophy. And the script did go according to plan as Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America Final on Monday. This Argentina’s record 16th trophy, with their last one coming in 2021.
Angel Di Maria Career
It has been nothing short of a stellar career for Angel Di Maria. In about 144 matches he scored 31 goals for the country, winning the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar, and finishing runners-up in the 2014 edition. Apart from that he had won the Copa America in 2021 too, while finishing second in the 2015 and 2016 editions. To add to that he has a bronze medal to his name in 2019 Copa as well. The list doesn’t stop there as he was part of the team that won the UEFA Cup of Nations in 2022, and also the gold medal-winning team at Olympics in 2008.
