Andre Onana admits Bayern Munich howler let Manchester United down

Andre Onana admits that his howler vs Bayern Munich cost Manchester United the game, Erik Ten Hag defends his keeper

Andre Onana showed no mercy for himself. The Manchester United keeper made a terrible error that doomed the Red Devils to lose at the Allianz Arena. The game vs Bayern Munich was a seven-goal extravaganza. When Andre Onana failed to stop a shot from Leroy Sane, United were on top over Bayern Munich at the time.

Andre Onana takes responsibility for mistake

Since replacing David de Gea, United’s new £47.2 million goalkeeper has allowed 14 goals in six games. Talking about the same, he has acknowledged that this is unacceptable.

Andre Onana said, ‘It’s a difficult situation for me, I let the team down. It’s because of me we didn’t win this game. We started very well and after my mistake we lost control of the game. I still have a lot to prove (to the fans). My start hasn’t been so good, not how I wanted.’

Andre Onana continued, ‘They hadn’t created any chances, their first shot on target I made the mistake and the team went down. We fought until the end but I have to recognise that we didn’t win because of me. But it’s the life of a goalkeeper and we have to move on. It’s a tough time and we have to be together and learn from our mistake.’

Erik Ten Hag doesn’t blame Onana for the game

Manager Erik ten Hag stated that Andre Onana shouldn’t take all the blame for the loss. This was after his team suffered its fourth loss in six games this season.

Ten Hag said, ‘In football there will always be mistakes, so don’t make it bigger than it is. Of course, he knows he has to stop the ball but the way Sane came through can’t be.’

The manager continued, ‘We have to support him on the pitch, not only in life, we have to help him. It doesn’t only count for Andre Onana, it counts for all the players. They have to understand they are in the same boat and they have to be on the same page to get results. When you score three goals in Munich you have to take a point, and you have to look in the mirror because the goals were easy giveaways.’

Erik Ten Hag and Manchester United will be slightly cross that they couldn’t grab a point in Munich. Their next assignment will be Burnley away in the Premier League. The Red Devils will be hoping to bounce back vs Vincent Kompany’s team.
